Evanston is a near north suburb of Chicago surrounded by Wilmette, Skokie, and Chicago.
People ask me; “Do you live in the City or Suburbs?” I answer, “I live in both!” Evanston and Wilmette offer what I sincerely believe to be the best living situation in all of Chicagoland. Wonderful diversity in our schools and community make of a great place to bring up kids in today’s world. No cookie cutter homes here. Each home has character, many are unique, and don’t let their age fool you, many are updated inside, yet maintain their charm outside. We have everything from modern high-rise condos to stately mansions, to modest houses and apartments. We are the proud home of Rotary International and Northwestern University, one of the world’s top academic institutions, which means a city with people who are highly educated, eclectic, progressive and open minded. NU is no party school but it is a fun part of living here, from a solid Big Ten sports program to great theatre. The campus is open and beautifully stretches along the Lake . In fall, there is the Homecoming Parade, on Saturdays in fall, hop on a free trolley bus that takes you from downtown to the gates of Ryan Field, Home of Wildcat Football! I describe Evanston as the kind of College Town “ Niles and Frazier would love to live in.”
This clean, active little city offers festivals, a cute Fourth of July Parade and fireworks, an annual top international bike race through our downtown, and a real night life. Movie theatres offer not only popular but foreign and art films, with live jazz and cocktails as you wait for your film! We have fantastic classical music in the intimate 400 seat Music Institute of Chicago, Live Blues, Ribs to die for at Hecky’s, Live Jazz and tender beef at Pete Miller’s, awesome Asian at Koi, BBQ at Merle’s, real Tapas, the Southern delights of Dixie Kitchen, tip a Guinness at one of two authentic Irish Pubs, and finish with a super desert at Red Mango! You can walk to all of them and pass dozens of other fantastic places I have not mentioned!
We have CTA and Pace bus service, allowing you to go to O’Hare for under $2! There’s Metra and the famous Purple Line Evanston Express El that swiftly and cheaply takes you to the Chicago Loop. (It may explain why you don’t see three and four car garages here; instead of four cars, why not two cars and a better house?) Parks are everywhere, beautiful beaches on our lakefront, including one just for our K-9 friends! I am a 15 year Evanston resident. I love living here, and would love to show you why you should consider putting roots down here.
