Chicago West Loop

The West Loop neighborhood is within MLS area 8028. It is located on the Southwest side of Chicago. The West Loop is bordered by Grand Avenue on the north, the Eisenhower Expressway on the south, Ashland Avenue on the west, and the Chicago River on the east. It is a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood that continues to evolve and grow into one of the best neighborhoods in Chicago.

The area was first inhabited in the 1800’s by immigrants looking for employment. While these first settlers did find homes here, much of the area was a warehouse district, full of factories and businesses. When Greektown was founded in the late 1800’s, some commercial sites were brought into the area. Since then, but mostly over the last 10 years, the West Loop area has undergone dramatic changes. Despite the rapid development, it is our opinion that the West Loop will continue to develop for the next 25 years. Due to the challenging real estate market in 2008 and 2009, real estate developers were careful about what to bring to the market and when. As a result, you do not see the glut of vacant developments that you may see in other areas.

The West Loop is a growing community with over 8,000 residents. Residents who live in the West Loop are attracted to the easy access to public transportation and the 290 and 90/94 expressways. Also, Madison Street has a variety of cafes, restaurants and nightlife. Inhabitants of the area span a spectrum, but due to the outstanding public and private schools in the area, there are more and more young families living here. Its proximity to the Loop results in many professionals also living in the neighborhood. Known as the Loft District of Chicago, the West Loop is full of condominium and loft buildings that were once warehouses and now result in sunny, spacious, residential spaces with large windows and unique floor plans.
