Near West Side

The Near West Side neighborhood is within MLS area 8028. It is located west of the Chicago River, adjacent to the downtown central business district (the Loop). The Near West Side is one of the 77 defined community areas of Chicago and is composed of various neighborhoods like Little Italy, University Village, Tri Taylor, Greektown, Maxwell Street, West Loop Gate (West Loop), the Fulton River District and the Illinois Medical District.

The area has undergone dramatic changes over the last century in social status, ethnic groups and has even changed from a residential area to a bustling business district. The area today has many residential neighborhoods as well as being home to the United States Postal Service main office, the Boeing headquarters, PepsiCo’s Offices and Aeromexico’s Chicago location.

The Near West Side area today has attracted middle class and upper class Chicagoans interested in living near downtown.
